A man has been detained days after being involved in a fatal hit-and-run near Louisville International Airport.
Michael Joseph, 39, was arrested Monday afternoon, according to court documents.
Officers came to the 5000 block of Crittenden Drive at 4:30 p.m. on June 2 to investigate a significant crash.
According to LMPD, one person died after their car collided with a utility pole, rolled over, and knocked down wires.
The victim was identified as 54-year-old John “Chris” Goodaker, the spouse of a long-time WHAS11 staffer.
According to Joseph’s arrest citation, surveillance video captured the driver of a Jeep Wrangler fleeing the scene of the accident without stopping or calling for assistance.
The LMPD’s Traffic Unit identified the vehicle and located it six days after the collision.
When officers contacted Joseph, who was seated in the driver’s seat, he said that the car had not moved in the previous 30 days owing to technical difficulties.
However, after being read his Miranda Rights, the citation stated that Joseph recanted and acknowledged driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.
According to LMPD, Joseph admitted to observing Goodaker’s automobile hit the utility pole, producing sparks, before fleeing the scene.
