Contractor discovered dead with ‘traumatic injuries’ in Pittsburgh garage

Police are investigating after a man’s body was discovered in Pittsburgh on Sunday.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, officers were dispatched to the 5000 block of Comrie Way in Bloomfield at 7 p.m. after receiving reports of a dead person.

Officers came and discovered a man’s body in a garage with “apparent traumatic injuries.”

On Monday, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Harold Bauer, age 68. The reason and manner of death have yet to be determined.

According to neighbors, Bauer was a local contractor who owned multiple properties in this area of Bloomfield, including a block of garages on Comrie Way. He was discovered dead in one of those garages Sunday night.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials, Bauer’s death looks to have been an accident. It was initially thought to be suspicious.

Neighbors reported Bauer, also known as “Hal,” frequently worked on generators, automobiles, engines, and other machinery inside his garages. One individual reported hearing a boom about the moment Bauer died.

“When his wife arrived, she tried calling him after 2 p.m. but didn’t hear back, so she came over around 5 or 6 p.m. and found him in the garage,” said Jack Ball, owner of the Bantha Tea Bar nearby.

Neighbors were upset to hear the news, stating that “Hal” was a member of their Bloomfield community.

“Everybody knew him and knew him as a nice guy,” Ball stated. “He was friends with a lot of people and worked with a lot of people around here.”

His cause and manner of death have yet to be officially determined.
