A resident of the Village of Buttonwood was taken into custody following a domestic altercation at her home.
Donna Jean Adkins, 62, was arrested Thursday by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies.
The Newport News, Virginia native informed deputies that the woman she reportedly attacked had been suffering from alcoholism for several years. According to the arrest report, someone brought the victim to Adkins’ house when the two women got into a heated verbal argument.
The woman began shouting profanities, forcing Adkins to take her by the face and cover her lips so that a person in another room could not hear the “vulgar” conversation.
The woman informed officers that Adkins also stepped on her back during the argument, but law enforcement was unable to verify that claim at the site.
Deputies concluded that Adkins was the major aggressor after she admitted to putting her palm over the other woman’s face.
Adkins was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery and held without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
