A Kansas City woman was apprehended in Lafayette County after a high-speed chase yesterday morning.

According to the probable cause statement, Lafayette County officials were notified of a car theft before 7 a.m. The vehicle was identified a short time later traveling westbound on Highway FF. Its driver, 40-year-old Michell Jean Marie Gist, refused to stop and sped up to 85 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone on FF.

The chase continued onto Highway 13, where Gist accelerated to 87 mph and ran many vehicles off the road. A spike strip was placed up at the Higginsville Junction, deflating several tires on the vehicle. Gist continued driving onto westbound Interstate 70 at a reduced speed. She was eventually forced to leave the road and arrested.
