Woman apprehended on hit-and-run charges in San Diego

A 44-year-old woman is in police custody today after being arrested on felony hit-and-run charges for striking and killing a 27-year-old woman and escaping in San Diego’s Southcrest area.

San Diego Police Department officers arrived to the 3500 block of National Avenue at 1:39 p.m. on Friday. Officer Jose Perales reported that the suspect was driving eastbound before drifting to the westbound lane and driving into the north sidewalk.

The suspect crashed with the bus bench and the victim, who was sitting in a partially enclosed bus shelter, Perales stated.

The collision resulted in fatal injuries to the victim, and the suspect drove away. She was apprehended nearby and charged with felony hit-and-run, authorities said.

The investigation will be handled by the police department’s Traffic Division, and anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or 858-495-7800.
