A man was sentenced to 33 years in prison on Thursday, May 21, after an El Paso jury found him guilty of two charges of aggravated sexual abuse against a minor.
According to a news release from the El Paso District Attorney’s Office, the case against 47-year-old Kevin Jerome Woods began in January 2022, when the victim informed their mother that Woods had sexually abused them while they were younger than six years old.
The victim took part in a forensic interview where they reported a single occurrence and described the assault in detail.
“This case began when the victim was still a young child, and it has taken years to reach this conclusion,” said District Attorney James Montoya. “No victim should have to wait that long for accountability. Our Office continues to work to move long-pending cases forward, and we deeply appreciate the jury’s careful attention to the evidence and their service in bringing this case to a just resolution.”
According to District Attorney James Montoya, Woods is not eligible for parole and will have to spend his whole sentence day by day, as well as register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
The El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit investigated the matter.
The trial took place in the 346th District Court, with visiting Judge Dick Alcalá presiding.
