Central Florida Man Taken Into Custody For Hiding Juvenile Runaway

A Central Florida man was arrested for hiding a juvenile runaway.

Detectives from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office called the Polk County Sheriff’s Office with information about a missing girl who was thought to be with a guy in Dundee, Central Florida.

The missing teenage girl from Orange County was found safe, and the adult male sex offender who was keeping her hidden was apprehended by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

PCSO detectives went to the home of Alexis Diaz-Toledo, 30, on Shepard Avenue in Dundee, in search of the missing 17-year-old. Diaz-Toledo denied knowing the girl’s location and said he hadn’t seen her in a few days; he first refused to allow authorities to investigate his home.

According to local law enforcement, police at the site found that Diaz-Toledo violated the requirements of his sexual offender registration by failing to report two of the automobiles stored at the property.

Detectives eventually examined the house and discovered the missing kid hiding in Diaz-Toledo’s bedroom closet.

The juvenile was returned home, while Diaz-Toledo was detained and brought to the sheriff’s processing center. He was charged with two charges of sex offender failure to comply with registration requirements, interfering with the custody of a minor, sheltering a minor without notifying the parent, and providing false information to LEO in a missing person investigation.

Alexis Diaz-Toledo has been a registered sex offender since 2014, when he was convicted of lewd and lascivious battery on a victim aged 12 to 15.
