Two Texas men were arrested after Pearl River County officers discovered suspected drugs and a handgun at a safety checkpoint, authorities said.
The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department reported that on April 30, deputies conducted a safety checkpoint on Highway 43 at Sycamore Road in Picayune.
Deputies stopped a car passing through the checkpoint around 11:51 p.m. after detecting the odor of marijuana, according to the sheriff’s department. Investigators said deputies discovered suspected controlled narcotics and a weapon inside the vehicle.
The driver was identified as Charlie Randall, 66, of Cedar Hill, Texas. The passenger was identified as Joseph Brooks, 65, from Dallas.
Deputies said they seized suspected marijuana, cocaine, and oxycodone, as well as a.25-caliber pistol. According to authorities, both guys have felony convictions.
Randall and Brooks were brought to the Lenoir Rowell Criminal Justice Center. Both were charged with two felony counts: possessing a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm and possessing a weapon as a convicted felon.
