Missing 15-year-old located 500 miles away with man she met online

Authorities located a missing 15-year-old Tuscarawas County girl in Wisconsin hours after she left her house with an older, married man who allegedly met her online and lied about his age.

According to Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Captain Detective Adam Fisher, the girl’s mother has returned her home, and the male, 24-year-old Jordan Romine of Dayton, is in custody in Walworth County, Wisconsin, appealing extradition to Ohio.

Fisher claims the couple had known each other for roughly three months, and Romine had even met their parents. However, Fisher claims they challenged him when they discovered he was not a teenager. He claims Romine presented himself as a year older than the girl.

“It appears that the two had connected on a social networking platform,” Fisher said, “and that they had created a friendship between them. But it looks like the 24-year-old is married with children. That marriage, I believe, is clearly going apart, and he ended himself in Tuscarawas County shortly after meeting the 15-year-old.”

Fisher reports that the girl left her home at midnight on Sunday, was reported missing at 12:44 p.m., and was found at 3:35 p.m. Investigators employed Flock Camera Systems to track down the suspect’s vehicle in Wisconsin, where police discovered the pair at a rest area.

“A handful of years ago when the technology was not the way that it is… we still would be asking, ‘Where?'” Fisher replied.

According to Fisher, Romine is originally charged with interfering with custody. Additional costs are probable.
