16-month investigation leads to arrest

A lengthy narcotics investigation in Bertie County has resulted in an arrest and a significant drug and weapons seizure, according to local authorities.

The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office said the case began in January 2025, focusing on suspected illegal drug activity in the Jack Branch Road area.

On April 17, 2026, investigators executed a search warrant at a home on Vance Lane, where several individuals were temporarily detained while officers searched the property.

Arrest and charges

Authorities arrested 55-year-old Anthony Lamont Lassiter, who now faces multiple drug and weapons charges.

Others detained at the scene were later released without charges.

What investigators seized

During the search, officials reported recovering:

  • 21.7 grams of cocaine
  • 821 grams of marijuana
  • Two handguns
  • Ammunition
  • $6,093 in cash

Strong warning from officials

Following the operation, the sheriff’s office issued a blunt message about ongoing enforcement efforts:

“Somebody will be next. We don’t know who, where, or when, but somebody is next. If you think that it might be you, then it might be you.”

Investigation ongoing

Authorities have not released further details about potential additional suspects or whether more arrests are expected. The case remains part of broader efforts to curb illegal narcotics activity in the region.
