The Memphis Police Department and FBI launched an investigation Wednesday after officials discovered the remains of multiple children in Hickory Hill.
Authorities confirmed they found the remains near Ridge Meadow Parkway, close to Ridgeway Road.
During a press conference, MPD officials said the investigation began on March 8, 2026, when officers responded to an anonymous tip and located what appeared to be a concealed skull in a wooded area.
On March 10, canine units uncovered evidence of more human remains inside a nearby drainage pipe. Six days later, city officials and police conducted a deeper inspection of the drainage system. On April 1, they discovered what appeared to be another skull. The following day, investigators located fourteen additional bones in the area that were consistent with human remains.
Police later confirmed the remains belonged to three children ranging in age from 3 to 7.
Authorities have not determined a cause of death, and investigators continue working to identify the victims and understand the circumstances surrounding their deaths. Officials believe the remains had been in the area for several years.
MPD also confirmed that the FBI is assisting in the investigation.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact MPD at 901-528-CASH.
