LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the Louisville man found fatally stabbed inside an Old Louisville apartment in February.
Louisville Metro Police said officers responded to an apartment complex in the 500 block of West Ormsby Avenue near Sixth Street around 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 26.
According to an arrest citation, 55-year-old Charles Gerlach jumped from a fourth-story apartment window.
Inside the apartment, detectives discovered the victim, identified by the coroner as 58-year-old Randall Moore, hidden behind a mattress in a closet. Police also found a dead dog in the bathroom sink.
The citation stated that Gerlach admitted to fatally stabbing Moore and hiding the body to “get it out of the way.” He also admitted to stabbing and then drowning the dog, police said.
The coroner’s office confirmed that the apartment belonged to Moore.
Gerlach faces charges including murder, abuse of a corpse, torture of a dog or cat, and tampering with physical evidence.
