Man Accused of Beating Victim with 2×4 in Downtown Louisville Appears in Court

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man accused of attacking another man with a 2×4 in downtown Louisville appeared in court Wednesday morning.

Julius Howard, 49, faces an assault charge.

Louisville Metro Police responded to a report of a fight around 2 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of East Market Street.

Officers arrived and located a man nearby who had been assaulted. Police said he was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

Witnesses told officers that Howard said “leave his country” before striking the victim multiple times in the head with a wooden 2×4. He also allegedly kicked the man.

Police found Howard a short distance from the scene with blood on his shoes.

According to police, Howard admitted to fighting with the victim.

A judge set his bond at $75,000. He is scheduled to appear in court again on March 26.
