Power outages continued to rise across Louisville on March 15 as strong winds moved through the region, leaving more than 8,600 customers without electricity as of 4 p.m., according to the LG&E and KU outage tracker.
Louisville remains under a wind advisory until 8 a.m. on March 16, with sustained winds between 20 and 30 mph and gusts reaching up to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville. Forecasters warn that damaging wind gusts of 65 to 75 mph could develop overnight as potentially severe storms move across the metro area, possibly starting as early as 10 p.m. Officials are also monitoring a nighttime tornado threat, estimating about a 5% to 9% chance of a brief tornado within 25 miles of the area.
As of 4 p.m., the LG&E outage tracker reported 127 outage incidents across Jefferson County. Residents are advised to stay clear of downed power lines and treat any fallen wires as if they are energized.
“We’re watching the forecast closely, and our crews are ready to respond safely and as quickly as possible to any potential impacts to our system,” LG&E officials said in a statement.
