LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Gunshots rang out early Wednesday morning inside a hospital room in St. Matthews.

Just before 6 a.m. at Baptist Health Louisville on Kresge Way, St. Matthews Police Chief Barry Wilkerson said a female patient in a wheelchair, identified as Mystic Rayne, brought a gun into the hospital and fired four shots inside a room.

She then barricaded herself inside, leading officers to request assistance from hostage negotiators and SWAT. Wilkerson said SWAT officers took about 30 minutes to convince her to surrender the weapon.

Wilkerson said Rayne had been airlifted in and admitted directly to the floor. As a nurse entered the room, the first shot was fired. Police said she did not shoot directly at anyone.

Because of the volume of initial emergency calls, authorities first treated the situation as a possible active shooter. After officers arrived, they determined it was an isolated incident confined to one room, Wilkerson said. No injuries were reported.

Court documents state Rayne shot out her window before placing the gun on a chair.

She faces charges of wanton endangerment and criminal mischief. According to court records, Rayne was cited and released.
