KENTUCKY — Police arrested a 24-year-old man from Russellville on Wednesday after a traffic stop led to several drug-related charges.

According to a uniform citation from the Russellville Police Department, officers pulled over a vehicle because of a faulty taillight and an improper registration plate.

When officers approached the vehicle, they said they smelled marijuana. Police identified the driver as Nathan Holland of Russellville. He admitted he had smoked marijuana earlier that day but denied having any inside the vehicle.

Authorities searched the vehicle but did not find any illegal substances.

Police said that after placing Holland in a cruiser, officers found cocaine in his possession, along with a Diazepam pill and a clear plastic bag near him. Officers stated the items were not inside the vehicle before he was placed in the cruiser.

Holland was taken to the Logan County Detention Center.

He faces charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), third-degree possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified), and possession of drug paraphernalia.
