LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Mayor Craig Greenberg announced the start of the registration period for Louisville’s SummerWorks youth employment program during his weekly press conference, joined by leaders from GE Appliances and SummerWorks.

Louisville residents between the ages of 16 and 21, as of June 1, are eligible to participate in SummerWorks.

The program’s core operating funds are approved by the Louisville Metro Council, with additional private support provided by the Jewish Heritage Fund and other partners.

SummerWorks aims to connect local youth with summer jobs that help them gain hands-on experience as they prepare for adulthood and future careers in fields such as manufacturing, technology, healthcare, logistics, and the skilled trades. Participants also earn a paycheck while building job skills.

Mayor Greenberg highlighted the impact a summer job can have on a young person’s life and encouraged Louisville employers who have not yet partnered with SummerWorks to get involved.

“We can help your organization find talented young people and, in some cases, even help pay their wages for the summer,” Greenberg said, while thanking long-time partners including GE Appliances, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, Kentucky Kingdom, MSD, Norton Healthcare, the University of Louisville, and UPS.

The program is also introducing a new SummerWorks language-training initiative designed to help English language learners prepare to enter the workforce after graduation.
