LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Metro Police Department’s drone unit helped arrest a shooting suspect last month after he tried to hide in bushes.
Jayden Ross, 21, was arrested in connection with a shooting near 24th and West Market streets just after midnight on Jan. 22, along the Portland-Russell neighborhood border.
Court documents say officers spotted Ross in a car with a broken back window fleeing the area. He ran a stop sign, pulled in front of an officer, and then ran multiple red lights. Ross crashed into another vehicle at 15th and Market before hitting a tree and fleeing on foot.
The LMPD drone unit joined the search and, using infrared imaging, located Ross hiding in bushes at 13th and Jefferson. SWAT and a K-9 officer apprehended him.
During the arrest, officers found a large bag of marijuana on Ross. He faces multiple charges, including fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, driving without a license, and leaving the scene of an accident. Police continue to investigate the shooting itself.
While being processed at Louisville’s jail, Ross picked up additional charges for promoting contraband, possession of a controlled substance, and tampering with evidence after police found multiple pills hidden in his underwear lining.
Ross entered a not guilty plea at his Jan. 23 arraignment, with bond set at $50,000 cash. His case has been waived to a grand jury.
