With temperatures expected to rise, Louisville could see another chance of snow on Feb. 3, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service in Louisville.
Although precipitation may begin in the morning, NWS Louisville meteorologist Brian Schoettmer said the system is expected to strengthen during the afternoon and evening. The precipitation could start as a rain-and-snow mix before changing to light snow by late afternoon and early evening, with Louisville forecast to receive a dusting to about half an inch of accumulation.
“Right now, we don’t have a whole lot of accumulation for Louisville, mainly because our temperatures will actually get above freezing tomorrow afternoon and evening while it’s snowing,” Schoettmer said.
Accumulation amounts could shift depending on where the dividing line between rain and snow sets up.
“It’s going to be a tricky one just because of that rain/snow line and temperatures above freezing, which make it hard to tell whether it’s going to accumulate on roads or not,” Schoettmer said. “We’ll definitely be focusing on it pretty hard here today and into tomorrow as well.”
The Feb. 3 system could lead to slick spots on roadways during the evening commute, though warmer temperatures may limit impacts, Schoettmer said.
“Just be prepared for a messy commute home and maybe allow some extra time,” he said.
After Feb. 3, Louisville could see another round of snow on Feb. 6, although Schoettmer noted the system may track northeast of the metro area.
