LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A medical cannabis dispensary is set to open soon in Jefferson County.
Kentucky Alternative Care (KAC) announced its grand opening in Louisville will take place Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. after receiving approval from the Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis.
“Our goal is to provide safe, effective, and premium medical cannabis in an environment patients can trust,” Dr. Su Kang said. “This is a new program for Kentucky, and we built Kentucky Alternative Care to prioritize education, clarity, and compassionate support so patients can make informed decisions about their care.”
A KAC spokesperson said the facility will provide one-on-one support for new and returning patients, along with additional patient resources.
The dispensary is located at 2401-B Bardstown Road, across from the Kroger near Trevilian Way.
Gov. Andy Beshear said during his weekly Team Kentucky update that Blue Sage Dispensary in Nicholasville opened Thursday. Another dispensary, nuEra Dispensary, is scheduled to open Friday in Frankfort.
With these openings, KAC will become the fifth medical cannabis dispensary operating in Kentucky.
Beshear said the state now has 18,000 approved cardholders and more than 510 registered practitioners.
A spokesperson for the Office of Medical Cannabis told WHAS11 News in September 2025 that the number of qualifying medical conditions listed in written certifications does not match the total number of card applications.
They said practitioners may have submitted multiple electronic written certifications for the same patient because earlier requests had expired, and some patients may have more than one qualifying condition.
According to information provided to WHAS11 News in September, chronic pain was the most common condition for which patients were approved.
