LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville residents now have a simpler way to stay informed about power outages affecting their homes or businesses.
LG&E and KU announced the launch of new proactive outage alerts this week. The service sends automated text messages or phone calls when a power outage is detected at a customer’s property.
The alerts are delivered through a secure digital communications network.
“Our customers rely on us to keep them informed and restore service safely and as quickly as possible during outages. Our new proactive alert service provides faster, more timely information when it matters most,” said LG&E and KU Vice President of Customer Services Shannon Montgomery in a news release. “This service is one of the many ways we are using modern technology and investing in system improvements to better defend against stronger and more frequent storms while also enhancing the customer experience.”
Here’s how the alert system works:
Outage notifications and updates will be sent by text message or automated phone call to the mobile or landline number listed on a customer’s account.
Customers can update their preferred contact information at any time using LG&E and KU’s self-service options, including the mobile app, online My Account access, or the automated phone system, all of which are available 24 hours a day.
Text alerts will come from 4LGEKU, or 454358. Automated phone calls will appear from 800-331-7370 for LG&E customers and 800-981-0600 for KU and ODP customers.
Customers are encouraged to save these numbers in their contacts for easier identification.
