LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Iranian Americans gathered along Broadway on Saturday, urging President Donald Trump to support calls for regime change in Iran as concerns grow for family members cut off by an internet blackout.

Naeim Torkian and Niloofar Sabzevari, who immigrated to the United States from Iran 15 years ago, said they still have family members living in the country.

They said they have been unable to contact their loved ones for more than a week due to restricted internet access in Iran.

“We are here to be their voice, since the government shut down the internet, they have no place to talk and raise their concerns,” Torkian said. “We are here to tell everyone, don’t forget about Iranian people. Support their revolution and be their voice.”

Sabzevari said additional pressure is needed from President Trump.

“He said help is on the way, and we trust him,” she said. “Please, every hour is important.”

In recent days, Trump has told Iranian protesters that help is on the way and that his administration would “act accordingly” if the killing of demonstrators continued.
