ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. — A teenage girl was fatally shot early Sunday morning in the parking lot of a Lowe’s store in Elizabethtown, according to police.
Officers were called just after 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 11 to reports of a shooting at the Lowe’s located at 100 Lowe’s Drive. When police arrived, they found 21-year-old Bryan Harbison of McDaniels performing CPR on a 15-year-old girl who had been shot in the chest. She was transported to Baptist Health Hardin, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police said Harbison told investigators he had met two teenage girls through Snapchat and believed they were 18 years old. He allegedly admitted to buying alcohol for them, after which the group went to the Lowe’s parking lot to drink.
According to police, Harbison and the victim were sitting in the bed of his truck, while another teenage girl was in the driver’s seat.
During questioning, the juvenile suspect allegedly told officers she picked up a handgun from inside the truck, pointed it at the victim, and fired a single shot, striking her in the chest. She reportedly said Harbison placed the gun on the center console and told her it was unloaded.
Harbison, however, told police the firearm was stored in the glove compartment and claimed the juvenile removed it without his knowledge.
The identity of the juvenile suspect was not released because of her age. Police said she was charged in connection with the killing.
Harbison was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. He is being held at the Hardin County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond. His arraignment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Monday.
