MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee father was sentenced to 12 years in prison this week after throwing his 8-month-old son against a wall in a fit of rage over losing an NBA 2K video game. The infant miraculously survived the attack but faces long-term medical challenges.

The incident occurred on November 5, 2024, when 22-year-old Jalin White was watching his son while the baby’s mother was away. Frustrated during the fourth quarter of his video game match, White threw the infant, causing a skull fracture, brain bleeding, and multiple broken ribs. Doctors needed to perform several rounds of CPR, and the child now depends on a feeding tube and receives ongoing specialized care.

White initially gave investigators multiple false stories, blaming an air mattress fall, the mother, and a diaper change. During sentencing, he admitted his actions and apologized, saying, “My intentions were never to hurt my baby boy… I want to take full accountability.”

Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Anderson M. Gansner sentenced White to 12 years in prison with seven years of extended supervision. He must complete counseling and treatment programs and is permanently prohibited from using physical punishment on any child in his care. White received credit for 419 days already spent in custody.

Prosecutors described the baby as “one of the most innocent of innocent victims in our community hurt by the very person who should protect them.”
