Be sure to bundle up as winter weather arrives late Monday night in Kentucky and southern Indiana.

A Weather Impact Alert is in effect as a winter system moves into Kentucky and southern Indiana late Monday night into Tuesday morning. This system is expected to bring all types of precipitation, including snow and ice.

Travel impacts are likely Monday night and Tuesday, especially on bridges and overpasses, where slick spots are expected. Most of Monday will stay dry with afternoon highs near 40 degrees.

Wintry weather is expected to move in during the evening as temperatures fall into the low to mid-30s. Snow is more likely in southern Indiana, with more mixed precipitation farther south.

More widespread snow showers are expected overnight into early Tuesday morning. Snow accumulation will be possible, though totals may be limited because this system lacks the very cold polar air that typically supports heavier snow.

It will be cold, but not the deep freeze normally associated with this type of setup. Even so, expect travel impacts Monday night and into midday Tuesday. Snow should exit Kentuckiana by 8 or 9 a.m. Tuesday, with temperatures near 30 degrees.

Snow would stick around longer if temperatures were expected to drop further and stay down, but this system does not support that. Highs on Tuesday are forecast to reach the mid-to-upper 30s with some afternoon sunshine.

Snow accumulation is expected across most of Kentuckiana, though totals will be modest.

Current estimates call for 1 to 3 inches, with the higher amounts likely in the northern counties. Much of the Metro may see 1 to 2 inches, with lesser totals south of Bardstown.

Plan for slower travel and slick spots Monday night and Tuesday morning. Make sure your fuel tank is full before heading out Monday morning.
