Foul Play Suspected in Death of Pike County Inmate

WEST LIBERTY, Ky. (WOWK) – Kentucky State Police are investigating the death of a Pike County inmate at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC).

Correctional officers discovered 27-year-old Ryan Rayburn of Ashcamp, Kentucky, unresponsive in his cell Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. EKCC immediately contacted KSP.

According to a press release, lifesaving efforts were attempted but unsuccessful. Rayburn was later pronounced dead at Morgan County ARH Hospital.

Preliminary findings indicate foul play is suspected. Authorities confirmed that a fellow inmate is considered a person of interest in the case.

Detective Jared Wagner is leading the ongoing investigation, with assistance from the Morgan County Ambulance Service.
