Elizabeth Anne Pennington Back, age 82, of Dayton, Ohio, and Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Windsor Care Center in Mt. Sterling.
Born August 8, 1941, in Clay County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late David Pennington and Ollie Evalyn Cox Gomm. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by the love of her life, Ranzel Back. Together they enjoyed 62 years of marriage until his death on February 3, 2022.
Those left to cherish Elizabeth's memory include her sister, Karen Sue Burns and husband Charlie of Kaufman, Texas; two nephews, Jeffrey Maze and wife Summerlin and Scott Maze and wife Brittney; four great nephews, Josh, Hunter, Dillon, and Axel Maze; one great niece, Aria Maze; one great-great nephew, Banks Maze; her stepsister, Judi Gomm, and her dear and best friend, Nellie Centers.
Elizabeth and Ranzel were pillars of the Mt. Sterling community. Among their many contributions to the area, they especially enjoyed assisting with the organization of the annual Court Days Festival. They looked forward to reuniting with familiar faces and creating memories with both returning friends and new acquaintances. That same type of enthusiasm and dedication was evident in their various businesses in Mt. Sterling and Dayton.
Elizabeth found great joy in tending to her home and garden, where she cultivated special vegetables and tended to the most beautiful flowers. People often commented on the perfectly arranged gorgeous flowers that graced her front yard. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and dear friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Pastor Robbie Conn officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
Burial will be in the Miami Valley Memorial Gardens in Dayton, Ohio.
