LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Two Louisville men were arrested after police caught them stealing copper wire from the interstate.
Louisville Police said officers responded Saturday night to a report of copper wire theft near Interstate 65 and Interstate 265, the Gene Snyder Freeway. Upon arrival, officers established a perimeter while searching for the suspects.
Police found 54-year-old Robert Kelly and 43-year-old Daniel Bentley actively stripping and burning infrastructure wire to conceal its identity. Both were arrested and charged with criminal mischief and trespass of key infrastructure.
During a search, Kelly admitted to carrying a small amount of meth, according to his citation. Both men also admitted to stealing the wire from the interstate guardrail to sell as scrap.
Kelly and Bentley are scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning, Sept. 29.
