Greenville police announced a man was apprehended after he was discovered hiding under a hotel bed.
On October 28, 2026, shortly before 11:30 p.m., an officer was conducting a regular patrol in the 2500 block of Highway 82 East when he noticed a car that appeared to have been involved in a previous police chase on October 26, 2026. According to investigators, the driver eluded law police during the chase.
The vehicle, a 2025 Nissan Altima, was parked near a hotel room and appeared vacant. Following additional inquiry, investigators discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
Washington County deputies responded to aid in the recovery of the stolen car.
While cops were on the scene, detectives reported hearing a woman yelling from a nearby hotel room. Concerned for her safety, authorities entered the room to conduct a welfare check.
During the welfare check, authorities spotted the suspect, Andrew Williams, Jr., hiding behind a bed. Williams was detained without additional incident.
During the investigation, officers reported finding suspected illegal substances and drug paraphernalia. A Nissan key fob discovered in Williams’ possession was also used to activate the recovered stolen vehicle.
Police reported finding suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a pistol, a stolen 2024 Nissan Altima, charred copper wiring, bolt cutters, and wire pliers.
According to authorities, the discovery of the charred copper wiring and cutting tools spurred further investigation into their potential relation to other illegal behavior.
Williams was detained and taken to the Greenville Police Department for booking. He was charged with theft of a firearm, felony possession of burglary tools, intent to possess methamphetamine, and weapon possession of a firearm.
