2 Charged In $2,369 Walmart Theft Scheme After Stolen Items Turn Up At Pawn Shop

Two people are facing theft charges after being tied to a Walmart theft of more than $2,000 in merchandise, some of which was subsequently located at a Clinton pawn shop, according to court filings.

Lillian Adela McQuay, 49, of Waldorf, and Larry Renae Swann Jr., 44, of Indian Head, have been charged in connection with the September 2, 2026, incident at a Walmart in California.

According to the statement of charges, police studied surveillance footage that showed McQuay and Swann entering the store together and spending time in the same areas.

Swann was seen pushing a shopping cart full of items through the entrance area, prompting an alarm to beep, then fleeing without pausing when an employee asked for a receipt.

According to investigators, McQuay was spotted pushing a separate cart holding a soundbar and a dress toward the grocery-side exit. After she had passed all of the points of sale, store staff stopped her and asked for her receipt.

McQuay reportedly stated that she was attempting to return the merchandise but could not offer a receipt. She then abandoned her cart and exited the store.

The products reported taken were a $899 De’Longhi Magnifica Evo espresso machine, a $249 Ninja Slushi Professional Frozen Drink Maker, a $419 JBL Boombox 4, and a $138 tiny refrigerator.

The stuff removed from the store was worth $1,705. The total worth of the soundbar and outfit McQuay reportedly intended to remove was $2,369, according to court filings.

The following day, a St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office crime analyst performed a pawn check and discovered that the espresso machine, Ninja Slushi machine, and JBL speaker were sold or pawned on September 2 at Paymore in Clinton.

According to court filings, Swann sold the things.

Investigators later identified McQuay after information gleaned during the investigation linked her to Swann. Investigators verified that McQuay was the same woman seen in the video after comparing an image of her to Walmart surveillance footage.

McQuay was charged with felony theft of $1,500 to less than $25,000 and conspiracy to steal $1,500 to less than $25,000.

Swann was charged with felony theft for $1,500 to less than $25,000.

Summonses were issued to both defendants on September 24.

McQuay and Swann’s hearings are scheduled for November 6, 2026, at St. Mary’s District Court.
