As the state of Texas continues to bake in the scorching heat like a lot of chocolate chip cookies in an oven (or oatmeal raisin, depending on your sweet tooth), certain areas are bracing for thunderstorms to hit.
According to the National Weather Service, following a very early morning of moderate rainfall in the southwestern part of the Texas Panhandle, possible larger storms are on the horizon beginning Sunday afternoon, August 23, and continuing into Monday morning, August 24. “Another wave of storms is forecast today, with the Northern Panhandles seeing the most activity. The NWS stated that isolated storms might begin as early as 2 p.m., with coverage and probability rising later tonight. “Any storm will be capable of localized heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts.
“Wind gusts?” you ask. Correct. The Dallas Cowboys’ prospects of winning the Super Bowl this year were dashed by damaging winds. Thunderstorm chances have increased to 40%, primarily in the northern half of the Texas Panhandle, while they have dropped to almost 10% in the southern part of the region. That’s more likely after 7 p.m. on Sunday night. Additionally, there is a high probability of excessive heat in the area. Widespread triple-digit high temperatures are forecast in the Panhandles once more on Sunday. According to the NWS, high temperatures in the Eastern Panhandles might reach 108°F, while Palo Duro Canyon could reach 111°F. Given the extended period of triple-digit temperatures, the risk of heat-related illnesses has increased. Please stay hydrated and take frequent rests while spending time outside.

It is forecast to be much hotter on Monday, with a high of 105 degrees. As for the rest of the week, wind kicks up as expected, highs fall but remain in the triple digits, reaching 102 in some portions of South Central Texas.
