Rockford Man Gets 16 Years In Federal Prison For Trafficking Fentanyl And Heroin

Demargio Tripp, 36, was sentenced today to 16 years in federal prison for trafficking drugs in the Rockford area.

Authorities say Tripp pled guilty earlier this year to distributing 40 grams or more of fentanyl and heroin between 2024 and 2025. Prosecutors said he also acknowledged in May 2025 to possessing cocaine and other narcotics with the intent to distribute them.

During the sentence hearing, U.S. District Judge Iain Johnston found that Tripp was a “career offender” under federal law due to prior drug trafficking convictions.

“Distribution of fentanyl and other controlled substances is a serious and dangerous offense,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Theodora Anderson wrote in the government’s sentencing memo. “As a drug dealer, the defendant is a direct cause of these problems.”
