Police released a sketch on Wednesday as the NYPD Hate Crime Task Force searches for a man suspected of targeting and assaulting a 12-year-old boy with a belt on the Lower East Side.
Police said the incident occurred at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, in front of 68 Baruch Drive.
According to officials, an unidentified male approached the boy and started a verbal altercation. During the confrontation, the suspect began shouting anti-LGBTQIA+ statements before striking the child with a belt.
The perpetrator then departed the scene on foot, heading in an unknown direction. The victim had minor injuries as a result of the assault.
The suspect is described as a dark-skinned male about 45 to 50. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants.
