(ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C) – Firefighters successfully rescued a woman who found herself trapped in a 16-foot well on Wednesday afternoon. The Orangeburg County Fire District reported that they received the call around 3:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, the team ventilated the well with fresh air and set up a tripod with rope rigging to lower a firefighter down to bring the woman to safety. The woman explained that she had been working in the yard with her husband, clearing out some overgrown plants when she accidentally fell in.
Although they were aware of the well's presence, the couple was uncertain of its exact location due to the dense vegetation. The well, which had previously been covered with cement, had collapsed when she stepped on it. EMS personnel on the scene assessed her condition following the rescue.
