Father Fatally Beaten While Confronting Assault Suspect, New Jersey Authorities Say
April 29, 2025

MILLVILLE, N.J. — A tragic confrontation turned deadly when a New Jersey father was beaten to death while attempting to confront two individuals about an alleged assault involving his daughter, according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office.
The April 20 altercation has resulted in homicide and weapons charges against a 17-year-old boy and his father. The teen is also facing a separate charge of aggravated assault for his alleged role in an earlier incident involving the victim’s daughter.
Authorities say the victim and his daughter went to a Millville residence seeking to speak with the 17-year-old about the alleged assault. Upon their arrival, an argument quickly escalated into a physical confrontation at the front door. According to prosecutors, the teen began striking the man in the head with a metal baseball bat. His father soon joined in, hitting the man with a metal flashlight.
During the violent encounter, the teen also struck the victim’s daughter in the head, officials said.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and attempted to transport the injured man to a nearby hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries en route.
The 17-year-old was treated for facial injuries, but no other individuals involved in the fight sustained serious harm, officials confirmed.
Due to the involvement of minors, authorities are withholding the names of those involved.
An online obituary described the victim as “a larger-than-life man who touched many lives with his strength, humor, giving heart, and unwavering love and protection toward family and friends.”
“He laid his life down to do what he does best — to protect his family; to protect his baby girl,” the tribute continued.
As the investigation continues, both suspects remain in custody. The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office has not disclosed whether additional charges will be filed.
Millville is located approximately 40 miles southeast of Philadelphia.
