Florida woman arrested weeks after hit-and-run that kills two children

SARASOTA, Fla. – Authorities in Florida have made an arrest in connection with a tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred in February, resulting in the deaths of two young children and leaving their mother in critical condition.
 
The Sarasota Police Department reported that the crash took place on February 10 at the intersection of North Washington Boulevard and 7th Street. A family was crossing the street when they were struck by a Lexus vehicle, whose driver fled the scene without offering assistance or notifying emergency services.
 
The incident claimed the lives of a 5-month-old and a 2-year-old, while their mother was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. Following the crash, detectives were able to locate the white Lexus and interview its owner, who cooperated with law enforcement. The investigation involved recovering the vehicle and confirming that evidence from the crash site matched the Lexus.
 
After several weeks of investigation, authorities arrested 72-year-old June Fenton on Monday. She faces charges of two counts of leaving the scene of a traffic crash resulting in fatalities and one count of leaving the scene of a traffic crash resulting in serious injury. Fenton has been booked into the Sarasota County Jail.
