Nearly three years after a woman was tragically shot at McCormick Place, Cook County Crime Stoppers reports that police have identified a suspect and are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
The crime-fighting organization announced the reward on Tuesday after publicly identifying Edgar Silva, also known as “Fat Boy” and “Lil Debo,” as the suspect in the July 30, 2023, shooting at 2701 South Lake Shore Drive. Crime Stoppers did not say how investigators identified Silva as a suspect.
According to Chicago police, 37-year-old Nancy Padilla and a 26-year-old man were driving north at 8:08 p.m. when a vehicle in a 2015 Nissan cut them off. According to police reports, after one of the victims honked at the other motorist, the offender came alongside the victims’ Volkswagen and opened fire.
Padilla was struck in the neck and died of her injuries. According to authorities, the man she was with sustained a graze wound to his back and denied medical assistance.
Crime Stoppers said anyone with knowledge can offer anonymous tips by calling 1-800-535-7867 or going to CPDTIP.com. According to the group, tipsters are not forced to give their names. Instead, they will be given a private code number via which they can collect the reward if their tip leads to an arrest or indictment.
