Akron police: 14-year-old boy apprehended in shooting that injured 2 teens

Akron police have taken into custody a 14-year-old boy in relation to a shooting that injured two teenagers last week.

Akron police stated in a Thursday update that the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force apprehended the youngster on Wednesday, April 29, in the 1700 block of Piedmont Avenue.

Police report that he is currently at the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center, facing two counts of felonious assault.

According to a prior release from the Akron Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of West Salome Avenue near Carlysle Street shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday, April 24.

Officers arrived at the scene to find two 14-year-old boys with gunshot wounds inside a residence. According to authorities, one kid was discovered by the front door after being shot in the chest, and the second victim was discovered in the living room with a gunshot wound to the pelvic area.

Paramedics transported both patients to Akron Children’s Hospital with injuries that were not deemed to be life-threatening.

Investigators discovered many gunshot casings and confirmed that both deceased were shot on the home’s front porch. Detectives think the incident is an isolated event with no ongoing threat to the community,” the police agency had stated. “The investigation remains ongoing.”
