Man charged after teen stabbed near Waterfront Park in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A 45-year-old man was arrested Saturday night after allegedly stabbing a 15-year-old boy near Waterfront Park.

Louisville Metro Police said officers responded to a reported stabbing at North Floyd Street and East Witherspoon Street around 10:21 p.m. following Thunder Over Louisville.

When officers arrived, they found a teenage boy with a laceration from an altercation.

EMS transported the victim to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to court documents, 45-year-old Vasilis Sakellaridis was arrested in connection with the incident.

Witnesses identified the suspect to officers as he ran from the scene. Police said they ordered him to stop, but he continued fleeing.

Officers reported seeing a knife in Sakellaridis’ hand as he ran, and said he later dropped it.

Court documents also state that police recovered homemade brass knuckles near him. Officers said he appeared highly intoxicated and was causing alarm among event attendees.

Sakellaridis faces charges of assault, alcohol intoxication in a public place, disorderly conduct, and fleeing or evading police.

He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
