LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man died after a crash on the Watterson Expressway in Louisville early Sunday morning.

Louisville Metro Police responded to reports of a crash on Interstate 264 East, the Watterson Expressway, near Taylorsville Road around 3:15 a.m. Sunday, according to department spokesperson Aaron Ellis.

Police said the man was traveling east on the Watterson Expressway at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons and struck the center concrete barrier. The car then continued down the interstate, veered off the roadway, and crashed into a sound barrier wall before coming to rest in a ditch.

The man was the only person inside the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt, Ellis said.

He was transported to University of Louisville Hospital, where he later died.
