LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man is facing charges after allegedly pretending to be a police officer to steal coffee and donuts from a gas station.
Officials said the incident happened on Jan. 9 at the Thornton’s on Cane Run Road. James Sullivan reportedly entered the store, took donuts, and poured himself a coffee. While taking the items alone isn’t illegal, police say Sullivan then flashed a silver badge on his hip as he walked past the cashier, bypassing payment.
The employee called authorities, and investigators determined this wasn’t the first time Sullivan had used the tactic. He was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer and theft by unlawful taking. Court records indicate Sullivan is a convicted felon with an extensive criminal history.
