Louisville is set to experience a “rollercoaster” stretch of temperatures heading into the week of Jan. 12 following a rainy weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville.
Gusty winds and precipitation are expected as a cold front moves through the area on Jan. 9, bringing temperatures down to the mid-50s, said NWS meteorologist Mike Kochasic.
Rain is forecast again on Jan. 10 before clearing out by Jan. 11. Highs are expected to reach the mid-30s, with lows dropping into the 20s.
“It’ll be definitely noticeably cooler,” Kochasic said.
Temperatures are expected to climb back into the 50s on Jan. 13, when another round of rain is possible. By the end of the week, highs will fall back into the 40s and 30s, he said.
“We drop, we go back up, and then we drop again,” Kochasic said.
The cooler stretch follows an unusually warm period in the region, including a record high of 68 degrees recorded at 3:50 a.m. on Jan. 9 at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.
Kochasic urged residents to “check the forecast” and “dress accordingly.”
“I know it’s a rollercoaster with getting warm and then getting cold, but we want to make sure that people are prepared,” Kochasic said. “Dress in layers if you need to. You could easily put on a layer and take off a layer, depending on warm or cold temperatures.”
