The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recalled more than 4,000 cases of salad dressings and sauces produced by Ventura Foods because they may contain black plastic pieces.

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The FDA issued the recall after discovering foreign material, identified as black plastic, in granulated onion used in the products. Officials said the contamination, reported on Nov. 6, poses a choking hazard. The recalled items were distributed at major retailers such as Costco and Publix.

The affected products include Monarch Italian Salad Dressing, Sysco Creamy Poblano Avocado Ranch Dressing and Dip, Ventura Caesar Dressing, Pepper Mill Regal Caesar Dressing, Pepper Mill Creamy Caesar Dressing, Publix Deli Carolina-Style Mustard BBQ Sauce, Costco Service Deli Caesar Dressing, Costco Food Court Caesar Dressing, and Hidden Valley Buttermilk Ranch. These products were shipped to delis, food courts, and food service locations in 27 states, including Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.

The FDA classified this as a Class II recall, meaning the products are unlikely to cause serious health issues but should not be consumed. Consumers should throw away the affected items or return them for a refund. The FDA posted the recall notice on its Enforcement Reports page, and no injuries have been reported.
