LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Louisville man turned a $2 holiday scratch-off into a $20,000 win.

The man, who chose to remain anonymous, told Kentucky Lottery officials he had been winning smaller prizes on the game, but everything changed after he bought a $2 Pac-Man Holiday Scratch-off after work at the Third Street Road Speedway in Louisville.

Officials said he first won $2 on another scratch-off and decided to reinvest it.

“I saw one number, and I laughed. My brother looked at me and said I didn’t know what I was talking about, but I had been playing this Pac-Man game and knew. Usually, the most I have ever won on it was $20; sometimes I have won $4. Once I saw that one number, I went to the car and scratched the rest of the ticket and was like ‘Wowzers,’” the man said.

He signed the back of the winning ticket and placed it in his home safe. He then called his dad and brother to plan their trip to claim the prize — $14,400 after taxes — the next day.

“I couldn’t sleep, so my brother, when he got off work, came over and started banging on my door to make sure I was up,” he said.

The three of them went to Kentucky Lottery headquarters in Louisville. The man said he plans to give his brother $5,000 to help him buy a car and donate 5% to charity at his dad’s request.

He also entered his ticket into the game’s second-chance top-tier promotion for a chance to win a Namco Pixel Bash Pac-Man Arcade Game worth nearly $3,000, along with a $1,000 cash prize.

According to a news release, players with winning and non-winning tickets have until Dec. 6, 2025, to enter the promotion. The second-tier prize is $500, awarded to five players, with winners drawn on Dec. 10.

There are still three $20,000 top-tier prizes and 46 $200 second-tier prizes remaining on the Pac-Man Holiday Scratch-off. The Third Street Road Speedway will receive $200 for selling the winning ticket.
