Several residents were safely evacuated after a fire broke out Sunday morning at a high-rise apartment building in downtown Jeffersonville.
The Jeffersonville Fire Department said the incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. at the Clark Arms apartments located at 117 W. Main Street.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from one of the units. Crews battled heavy smoke as they made their way to the fifth floor, where they discovered the unit on fire. The flames were quickly put out while additional teams helped residents evacuate.
Several people were checked by EMS at the scene and released.
According to the department, the fire was brought under control in 22 minutes. The cause remains under investigation.
