Carlos Rendon, a Florida cosmetologist, and his sister Yorlady Rendon allegedly ran a fake dental practice in Orlando for years, shaving down people’s teeth and placing veneers in exchange for thousands of dollars, officials say.
One woman told investigators she developed a serious gum infection after receiving veneers that were too large. “[She] wanted to cry because of how they looked,” authorities said.
It’s unclear how many people fell victim to the Rendons’ alleged scheme, but police say it spanned several years and involved thousands in cash payments.
Florida’s Department of Health confirmed that Carlos Rendon is licensed as a cosmetologist, allowing him to provide hair and nail services—but not medical or dental care.
Dr. Deoraj Ravi Lall, a local dentist, warned of the potential health risks. “The girl ended up getting infections,” he said. “She can have many things go wrong that a typical person wouldn’t even think about. An infection in the gums can affect your heart, kidneys, or lead to diabetes. There are many potential complications.”
The Rendons are facing felony charges, though authorities have not yet released specific details. Florida DOH officials and police did not respond to requests for comment.
