The U.S. 62/U.S. 31W dual roundabout interchange project is moving into its next phase, and another traffic shift will take place this week.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District Four announced that westbound U.S. 62 traffic will now travel along the outside of the roundabouts, with access to both the northbound and southbound bypass ramps. Eastbound U.S. 62 traffic will remain in the current pattern, allowing access only to the southbound bypass ramp. Northbound bypass traffic can access U.S. 62 but will only be able to head west.

As part of this phase, the Nicholas Street connector from U.S. 62 will be closed at both ends. Westbound drivers needing Nicholas Street will turn left at the signal at Nicholas. Eastbound drivers will continue to U.S. 31W, turn right, loop around the square, and then turn right onto Nicholas Street.

“We’re heading down the homestretch of finishing this project, but this is one of the bigger traffic impacts with the closure of the connector between U.S. 62 and Nicholas Street,” said KYTC District Four Public Information Officer Chris Jessie. “Local residents know the area, but delivery and other drivers unfamiliar with the neighborhood need to follow these detours carefully.”

The shift was originally planned for Thursday but was delayed to Monday due to rain. Drivers are encouraged to follow KYTC District Four on social media for the latest updates.
