Grayslake residents seeking to halt the construction of a large-scale data center presented their arguments before a Lake County judge on Friday, outlining the reasons they believe the facility has no place in their community.
A group of Grayslake residents filed a lawsuit earlier this summer, alleging that the village approved a T5 Data Centers project without soliciting public input and that local zoning laws were violated in the process of granting approval for the development.
The village of Grayslake responded by filing a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
Both parties were given the opportunity to present their respective arguments before the Lake County judge on Friday.
“I think our case boils down to one issue, and it’s if the residents that live near these properties are afforded a part of the political process. Are they afforded the ability to comment? Are they afforded the ability to look at these developments and question what is happening?” said Chloe Russell, an attorney for the neighbors seeking to block the data center project.
The village has maintained that the proposed data center is projected to generate approximately $18 billion in private investment for the area.
The presiding judge is anticipated to issue a ruling by December 30.
