15-year-old teen accused of stabbing at Miami Northwestern Senior High charged as adult

A teen accused of stabbing a student at Miami Northwestern Senior High School following a dispute is being charged as an adult, according to documents.

Carlos Martinez, 15, is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possessing a weapon on school property, and interfering with educational instruction.

Martinez was charged as an adult, according to NBC6.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at the high school on August 31 in response to reports of a stabbing.

According to the arrest record, Martinez was taken to the hospital for self-inflicted injuries sustained during the altercation, along with a victim.

Detectives then spoke with the victim, who stated that he had no idea who Martinez was, had seen him being jumped by two other minors, and was watching the fight, according to the report.

Cellphone footage shows two persons appearing to collaborate as they attack a student in a hallway before the student attempts to pursue them.

According to the report, the victim told officers that when everyone began running away, he felt a shove in his back and assumed it was one of the other students escaping, but another student informed him that he was bleeding and that something was leaking from his back. He claimed he never engaged with Martinez.

Back at the school, officers discovered a knife with a 5-inch blade and a total length of 10 inches, according to the report.

According to the report, surveillance video at the school captured Martinez in a physical confrontation with two other kids, during which he reached into his pants and pulled out a blade-shaped device. Martinez was then seen rushing down the corridor in retaliation, and he was last seen heading down the hallway to gather his belongings, putting the bladed object back in his pocket, and attempting to flee.

After Martinez left the corridor, the school’s principal noticed him fleeing into the parking lot and asked why he was bleeding, to which Martinez acknowledged holding a knife, according to the report. The principal then took the knife.

During the event, the school was placed into lockdown.

According to the report, the victim had a puncture cut on the right side of his back that required stitches, and Martinez had many self-inflicted finger lacerations.

Martinez was detained after he had received treatment.

Martinez’s lawyers claimed in court on Saturday that he was tormented at school and drowned by two kids. “Mr. Martinez was severely bullied at school,” the attorney stated. “He was drowned by two people from the school. “There was a violent encounter.”

Martinez’s lawyers said he acted in self-defense after the event. And we’ve offered a ton of mitigation to the state in terms of this being absolutely out of character and as a direct result of the continual bullying that he was subjected to,” his attorney stated. “We have letters from the principals and from his teachers that support this assertion.”

Martinez’s counsel stated in court that the two students who reportedly jumped him will face prosecution. “He is also cooperating with the state because they are bringing charges against the two juveniles who jumped him,” Martinez’s attorney stated.

Finally, the judge set Martinez’s bond at $6,150 and ordered that he be placed under house arrest.
