An innocent 12-year-old Bronx girl was shot by members of one of the city’s most notorious gangs as they aimed for rivals while chanting, “Ewok!” on Monday, according to authorities and law enforcement sources.
According to the NYPD, the toddler was shot in the stomach and right foot during the carnage at a park in front of a building on Tratman Avenue between Rowland Street and St. Peters Avenue in Westchester Square, Boro, at about 8:30 p.m.
According to accounts, the girl heard individuals chanting, “Ewok! Ewok!” just before the rounds were fired.
The word refers to a chant connected with the Makk Ballas, also known as Mac Ballers, a particularly nasty city street gang affiliated with the Bloods, sources added.
When the gang members spotted their rivals approaching, they began chanting and opened fire, according to sources.
The small child, who is three days away from her birthday, was transported to Montefiore Hospital by a good Samaritan who was driving by as the incident happened. Police said she is in serious but stable condition.
Investigators discovered a.9mm handgun with a flashlight on the scene, as well as seven shell casings, a live round, and two fired bullets, according to sources.
Police have not yet made any arrests.
